Rhyno started off in the Division Four of the Harlow and District Football League in September 2001. They were placed in a very strong League which consisted of current Premier Division Cup Winners Rouge Lyon (In their first season.), Harlow Town (Who had several Non-League players in their ranks.) Latton - A very talented youth side and GPCA Youth, which was a contradiction as their best and most influential players were the other side of 30 and had played at a high level.
For many of the original Rhyno players, they had played together before for the by-now defunct Hornets. Although they finished below the four aforementioned sides, they were pretty consistent against the other sides in their League and ended an encouraging fifth position. Michael Downing signed for the club around Christmas time and soon established himself as Rhyno’s Number 1, a position they’d struggled to fill until this point and had cost them some goals and subsequently points. Difficult Cup draws meant first round exits all round and their best result of the season was denying Rouge Lyon three points in a 2-2 draw. The result cost Rouge the title that year.
