Season 2005 - 2006

A really great season, by anyone’s standards ended with a bit of whimper in their League campaign, but nothing can takeaway what a fine side Rhyno turned out week after week during this season, their first in Division One. They went further than any other club in Harlow to reach the Essex Junior Cup Area Final and were unlucky to lose against Chelmsford -based Hannakins Farm 4-3 after Extra Time. A saved penalty-kick five minutes from the end of extra-time, ensuring they’d be no more against a well organized and experienced side, but not necessarily the best they’d played during their run to the Final. In the Inter-Divisonal Cup, Rhyno went further than they’d ever been reaching the last sixteen, before going down 3-0 in somewhat controversial circumstances to Maypole’s First team, the most successful in the town over the past ten years or so. Rhyno finally got their hands on silverware on Wednesday April 7th 2006. By beating Lyndsey Street 3-1 at the Sportcentre, this exciting young side got the reward their performances throughout the season deserved. In the League, they only finished six points from top spot which was occupied by GPCA Reserves. Risden and Marquis Reserves also finished above Rhyno, and all four of their defeats came against these sides – Marquis Reserves twice - but it must also be said that they also comfortably beat GPCA Reserves 4-1 in February and were 2-0 up when questionably reduced to ten men in the first encounter with Marquis Reserves and ended up losing 3-2. Another result highlight was another 4-1 win, this time over Maypole Athletic Reserves - bolstered by a few First Teamers - in the Semi-Final of the Essex Cup, which was really the first ‘big’ game Rhyno had ever won.
